Volkswagen debuts the ID. Tiguan: an electric Tiguan to replace the ID.4 and ID.5

Presented in Wolfsburg on October 9, 2026: the brand’s best-selling name goes electric on the MEB+ platform, with up to 600 km of WLTP range and pre-sales opening October 13.

Volkswagen has presented the ID. Tiguan, its new all-electric crossover, in Wolfsburg on October 9, 2026. The model carries the name of the company’s best-selling model worldwide and succeeds both the ID.4 and the ID.5 — models of which, Volkswagen says, more than 950,000 units have been built.

The electric ID. Tiguan is built on the upgraded MEB+ platform and will be offered in three drive levels: a rear-wheel-drive version with 140 kW (190 PS) and a 58 kWh battery, a rear-wheel-drive version with 210 kW (286 PS) and a 77 kWh battery, and a top 4MOTION all-wheel-drive variant producing 220 kW (299 PS) with the 77 kWh battery. Depending on output and battery size, WLTP range reaches up to 600 kilometres (about 373 miles) — a figure Volkswagen says was determined in the most range-favourable equipment variant and may differ with equipment. The model is built in Emden.

The Tiguan is our bestselling model worldwide, and the ID.4 and ID.5 are among our most successful electric cars. The ID. Tiguan brings these two success stories together.Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, at the presentation

The electric ID. Tiguan is scheduled to arrive at the beginning of 2027, sold in parallel with the current Tiguan, which continues with petrol, diesel and hybrid drives. Pre-sales begin on October 13 in Germany and many other European countries, with prices starting at 42,695 euros. Volkswagen notes that equipment specifications and pricing refer to the German market and that details may differ elsewhere.

The exterior marks a visible departure from the softer crossover shapes of the ID.4 and ID.5, built around the company’s “Pure Positive” design language. Volkswagen is also stepping back from one of its most criticised ergonomic choices: classic pull-style door handles return, and inside, physical buttons are restored for climate settings, audio volume and the steering wheel, replacing touch sliders and touch controls. The cabin centres on a 10-inch Digital Cockpit and a 15-inch infotainment display, with an optional 12-inch co-driver display with a privacy function — billed as a first for a European Volkswagen.

Practical figures: towing capacity reaches 1,800 kg with the 58 kWh battery and 2,000 kg with the 77 kWh battery; luggage space is up to 534 litres, supplemented by a 32-litre frunk. The ID. Tiguan will be offered in four equipment versions: Trend, Life, Style and R-Line.
