The electric vehicle year in ten numbers
From $108 battery packs to 1.19 million battery swaps, a 150,000th electric truck to a 24.9% market share — the figures that defined electric transportation in 2026.
$108 — the price of a battery pack
The average lithium-ion pack cost $108 per kWh in 2025, per BloombergNEF’s annual survey — down 8%, and 93% below the real-terms price in 2010. BEV packs averaged $99 per kWh, the second year under $100. Chinese packs averaged $84; European packs ran 56% higher.
1.8% — the yearly fade of a battery
Fleet data across more than 10,000 EVs put average annual battery degradation at 1.8% — the number behind the used-EV market’s quiet confidence, and the benchmark every buyer’s guide now quotes.
150,000 — BYD’s commercial EV milestone
BYD built its 150,000th commercial new energy vehicle on October 9 — a Q3 electric semi-truck rolling off the Huai’an line, capping 18 years of development as the company pushed from urban buses into heavy long-haul trucking.
1.22 million — BYD’s Golden Week sessions
BYD’s Megawatt Flash-Charging network served 1.22 million vehicle charging sessions for 540,000 users during China’s October 1–7 holiday — peaking at 188,344 vehicles in a single day across 12,165 stations in 341 cities.
1.19 million — NIO’s holiday swaps
NIO Power’s answer to the same holiday: more than 2 million charging and swapping services, including 1.19 million battery swaps — up 22% year-on-year. On their busiest days, one NIO swap station completed roughly three times the services of a BYD flash-charging gun.
180 — IONNA’s live sites, doubled in a year
The automaker-backed IONNA network more than doubled in 2026, passing 180 live sites — up to 400 kW, both CCS and NACS — and taking first place among DC fast-charging providers in the 2026 J.D. Power public charging study in its first year of eligibility.
A$225 million — Ampol’s bet on charging
Ampol’s October 1 agreement to buy Evie Networks for A$225 million folds 1,031 DC charging bays across 322 Australian sites into a combined 1,425-bay, 400-site network — fuel retail buying charging networks rather than building them.
24.9% — Australia’s electric August
Electric vehicles reached a record 24.9% of new passenger vehicle sales in Australia in August — outselling petrol and diesel models for the first time, after five months above 20%.
27,372 — Britain’s rapid chargers
Official UK statistics recorded 119,080 public charging devices on April 1, 2026 — with 27,372 rated rapid or above. Hardware follows policy, and policy this year followed through.
1,425 — and the road ahead
The combined Ampol–Evie platform. The IONNA 30,000-bay target for 2030. The $105/kWh packs BNEF forecasts for 2026. Ten numbers, one direction: the year electric transportation stopped being the future and became the arithmetic.
